For a yearly oil change, brake fluid flush, and to have them look into my on-going saga of excessive moisture inside my GTI.
Apparently, I am not adjusting the temperature high enough to defrost the window...
Sigh.
I hate incompetent service departments.
So I guess I’ll just have to melt while driving my car rather than lower the temp once it’s warm enough.

Check your taillight seals..
That’s how the mkI, mkII, mkIII, mkIV worked.. Taillights leaked letting water into the hatch/truck/spare tire well. Musty smell + inside windows fogging and icing.

I had a 2004 V6 Touareg. I told myself no VW ever after that fiasco. Then I see people buying GTIs left and right, clammorign about how good they are and how far VW has progresses in reliability in last 15 years, and I think to myself maybe, just maybe I could get another VW.
Then I see a post like this and realize that my no VW policy is still firmly in place.

Aside from this issue with water, which really only is a nuisance if it’s well below freezing, I have no major complaints with my car so far.
Now, I’m still skeptical that I won’t have future issues. But for now I am enjoying a reliable and adept sporty hatch. #shrug

‘05 Touareg V8 owner here . Starting about five years ago, I’ve had to drain the water twice a year from the front wells, as leaves and acorns have wreaked havoc. Ditto for the back/sunroof drains, or I’ll end up with water in the spare tire well.
People must think I smoke or vape, because I constantly drive around and park in cold weather with the sunroof tilted open so the front window doesn’t freeze up.
Having said that, it’s a not-so- small price to pay....I still love the truck.
Do you park on a hill/incline? That makes it worse...

I don’t blame anyone who owned a 2000-2010 VW for never wanting to go back, as it seemed like there were regular, significant quality issues. I’m not sure that this has been resolved, and like ADabOfOppo, I bought my 2016 GTI skeptical about reliability. Despite having no issues at 40k , that skepticism hasn’t departed.

I might consider a lease on a new GTI - if they can ever touch the lease offers I got on my WRX. I see them as direct competitors, and my 2017 WRX (base, manual, MSRP around $ 27k, 10k mile lease ) was $2000 down and $220 per month for 36 months. That is $275 per month effective lease. VW special offer for GTI lease? None on their website , but local dealers have $299 per month for 36 months with zero down , which is sort of tempting - other than the fact they cap you at 7500 miles per year for that price, so I imagine closer to $350 for 10k miles per year.
A new WRX is very, very hard to beat when car shopping when it comes to price and performance per dollar ratio. And yet, I still might get another Abarth :/
